LABOR DAY IS STRANGE

As a child I always thought
Labor Day,it sure is strange
What has silly people wrought
Nobody works out on the range
Jobs and work has come to naught
For three day weekends  in exchange
For the jobs in which we're caught
Food, drinks and beer must be bought
For camps on lake or river we arrange
Or cause we've not seen 'em for a year
We'll drive for miles and miles downrange
Just to visit some of our family so dear
And talk and talk until our minds derange
Have barbecues with old friends brought
Back into our circle for fun and games
Until our nerves are stretched so taut
Because we can't recall all their names
The rest and relaxation that we sought
Now that our money's all been spent
Leaves us with stress and worry fraught
Now we know why it's called Labor Day
Because now we labor to get more pay
