BAIT GATHERERS ANONYMOUS

BAIT GATHERERS ANONYMOUS

The summer with my uncle that I spent
Was a fun and very educational event
My cousin and I worked on a truck farm
Outside of Tulsa before 5 oclock alarm
Had to go before daylight came around
Evenings we went walking around town
To catalpa trees the worms made sag
Gather em up put em in a freezer bag
Uncle wanted every one we could take
He put em in the freezer for the lake
At night uncle made my cousin and me
Wear old clothes,go out in the country
He'd drive close to a pond, let us out
Turn off his lights, wait for our shout
He made us seine the ponds for crawfish
Hope we don't get caught,I'd always wish
On days after a rain and the grounds wet
We had to be out with our shovels yet
Rain brings worms from deep to the top
We dig them up till he says we can stop
Do this all week and for goodness sake
There's lots of bait for us at the lake
Some of these ways were a bit devious
But 16 years, old we were mischievious

This part of my tale is off subject
But it's so funny I have to interject

My uncles bait freezer got plumb full
In the kitchen freezer, that's no bull
He put some bags of the catalpa worms
It's amazing how, in the frozen forms
They look like green beans at a glance
My Aunt cooking supper, just by chance
Grabbed some, dumped em in a pan to cook
And she never even took a second look
The worms thawed and as some of em can
The green beans crawled outta the pan
She saw and let out a shriek of fright
AND WE HAD PIZZA FOR SUPPER THAT NIGHT
