GOOBER THE COMMUNITY DOG

Back when my kids were really very, very small
On our little farm we didn't have a dog at all
A little puppy wandered into the yard one time
The puppy was a stray and wasn't worth a dime
Daddy can we keep him the kids all said to me
I said we'll find his owner where he should be
If we can't, then I guess he'll belong to you
First thing they did was try to feed him too
But the little dog wouldn't eat a thing at all
Even as a puppy he stayed as fat as a football
We bought all kinds dog food and puppy chow
But he wouldn't eat any of it at all anyhow
He never got skinny or seemed at all hungry
How he stayed fat to me was really a mystery
We named the dog Goober,to eat he was too dumb
Now then we all later learned just how come
Goober dog went hunting each and every day
He was catching rabbits and eating anyway
Goober had also a daily and regular route
All thru Dotyville and the neighbors about
Every one of them would throw him a treat
First community dog that you ever did meet
Goober was the smartest dog that I ever had
Thinking he was dumb now made me feel so bad
I asked the kids if we should change his name
They didn't want to, just leave it the same
So Goobers name and Goobers fame always will
Be known as the community dog of Dotyville
