About my adventures on the farm
Had lots of livestock we could grow
Pigs and chickens you already know
We had more but that's another story
It was warm, summer in all her glory
I was tanned just as dark as the dirt
When it was hot I didn't wear a shirt
All us kids had chores we had to do
Feeding the chickens was one of mine
I got along with the them just fine

A coward when you could watch and see
But to your back,a rooster from hell
Now drawing the water outta the well
Was another chore my folks had for me
We got the water with a bucket and rope
This rooster would jump me every time
A coward maybe but he wasn't a dope
When I got the bucket about halfway up
And couldn't let go of the rope he saw
He'd jump on my back, spur, peck and claw
A few weeks of it and I got really mad

So I went in the house and got my gun
And fixed that rooster, now it's done
I hid the rooster so Dad wouldn't see
You won't believe why he spanked me
Not a lick for shooting the old snot
But I didn't clean him for the pot
