DON'T TRY TO OUTSMART YOUR KIDS

Once upon a time but not too long ago
I found some weeds in our field. Oh no!
Cockle burrs, they're real bad you see
Take over your field, one, two, three
These weed seeds are funny as can be
They look like porcupine eggs to me
My kids might help to clean the field
And so with them I wheeled and dealed
I'd give 'em a nickel a porcupine egg
That way for money they need not beg
Now the field was really kinda small
The weeds weren't very thick at all
Five or six dollars that was my call
Weeds would be gone kids had a ball
I wasn't smart as my dreams were tall
My number 3 son,he was smart as a whip
In a few days brought in a bag to unzip
I asked him just how he found so many
He said in our field now there wasnt any
So at all the neighbors he found plenty
A nickel each,Yes I had given my word
Never thinking to say boys do not roam
I'll only pay for those you get at home
Yes I paid him for his bag full of eggs
My lesson cost me an arm and two legs
